Should I see a specialist for skin trauma, or can my regular doctor take care of it?

In brief: Skin trauma

The best thing is to see someone without worrying about who would be best.
Delay in wound care can make a simple healing process more complicated than it needs to. Access to wound care can come from many sources: urgent care, emergency room, primary care, or subspecialty care ( wound care, dermatologist, plastic surgeon, etc.).

In brief: Trauma

Usually, your regular doctor can manage minor skin trauma.
However, for complex trauma, burns, animal bites and uncommon types of injuries, i recommend seeing a specialist. Wih complex injuries, there is a greater risk that tissues deeper than the skin are injured. Specialists are trained to diagnose as well as treat these more difficult wounds.
