How long can I wait with skin trauma to see if it goes away without seeing a doctor?

In brief: Skin trauma
The severity of the wound (depth, dirt, muscle/tendon involvement) , size of the area involved, and location of the wound are all factors to be considered.
If it's large, deep, dirty, involves vital structures, don't wait, see a doc. Also be certain you're up to date on tetanus prophylaxis (within past 10 years?).
