How common is it for somebody to get liver cancer?

Not common. There are essentially 2 types of liver cancer, hepatoma (HCC, malignant liver cells) and cholangiocarcinoma (from the bile duct cells). They are both uncommon in the USA but more common in certain parts of Asia. Risk factors HCC include, hepatitis B and C, cirrhosis (whether alcohol related or not), exposure to aflatoxin (toxin released from certain mold fungus).
