Fracture of the neck spine is always a risk in any neck trauma.
It is why emergency teams put the patient on a neck protective board until evaluation is possible. But most cases of neck strain and trauma are just muscle and ligament injury, while fracture is far less common. If you feel you have a fracture, see your orthopod or er doctor immediately.
