In brief: Testis pain

Most cases of pain in the testicle will resolve on their own.
A scrotal ultrasound may also be helpful. In general, i would advise that if your symptoms persist longer than three months, you should probably see an urologist.

In brief: Get testicular US

While there may not be a hernia, other things can cause symptoms, including a hydrocoele of the testis - an accumulation of clear fluid around the testicle.
A primary hydrocele causes a painless enlargement in the scrotum on the affected side - on occasion, the size can cause discomfort. A testicular ultrasound can make this diagnosis, and also rule other other testicular pathology.

In brief: See a urologist

This discomfort in your testicle may be from varicose veins of your testicle (varicocele), a very subtle minor hernia, a growth or tumor, or other problems that may be more difficult to figure out on your own.
Urologist specialize in treatments of the penis, testicles, prostate, bladder, and kidneys. They are the best sources for information advice and treatment in this manner. Good luck!
