In brief: Three General Rules

Stones form for two reasons: too much of something in the urine that promotes stone formation, or not enough of something that prevents them. 1.
Hydration with 80-100 oz of water/day helps to reduce the risk, no matter the composition of the stone. 2. Limit sodium(salt) intake to 1400-1600 mg/day 3. Limit animal protein intake to < 10 oz/day, as uric acid (broken down from meat) promotes stones.

In brief: DRINK WATER

The best way to avoid crystals in your urine, which are the building blocks of stones, is to keep the urine very dilute.
Drink enough fluids to make urine almost colorless, and stones are much less likely to form.

In brief: Drink water.

Drink atleast 2-3 liters of water a day.
Kidney stones form when certain minerals and chemicals bind in your urinary tract and form small stones that are extremely painful. Ifdrinking lots of water doesn't work, then your urine and blood must be tested to reveal the origin of the kidney stones. Then additional medications can be used to help prevent kidney stones.

In brief: DRINK WATER

The best way to prevent kidney stones, especially if you are a stone former, is to increase your daily water intake.
This will help dilute the urinary crystals to hopefully prevent them from becoming larger and turning into kidney stones. Depending on the type of stone one has had in the past, diet may also help such as avoiding oxalate and a high uric acid diet (meat products).
