Can using albuterol cause a low potassium on your blood test?

In brief: Useful in a pinch

Respectfully, for the reasons detailed by dr. Rubin, nebulized albuterol can be effective within 30 minutes to lower potassium by about 0.
5 mmol/l. The effect lasts about 2 hours. Long enough for bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) and Insulin therapies to start working.

In brief: Albuterol and K

Albuterol works to create smooth muscle relaxation through the beta-2 receptor site but one of it's other effects, is to reduce extracellular potassium (k) concentrations by pushing the k into the cells.
This action is quite handy, in a pinch, but it cannot be relied on because the action is not quick enough in its onset to be of help in a hyperkalemic emergency.
