Is omnicef (cefdinir) ok for strep throat?

It will work well. This is like taking an elephant gun to kill a squirrel, but I have done it before and will do it again.Strep is killed off by this med and if the patient in unable to take penicillin or amoxicillin, it is a better back up med than many others.

Likely viral add on. One year olds do get strep but many carry strep without disease which makes copy cats like throat viruses or mono hard to sort out.I would suspect a co-infection or primary virus that abx will not effect. Careful follow-up and supportive care are reasonable. Read more...
