In brief: Prenatal vitamins
Prenatal vitamins are taken in order to give your body the nutrients needed to assist in the healthy development of a fetus and reduce the risk for disorders such as spina bifida.
Sometimes they can cause nausea when taking, just like taking any vitamin, but overall there are not many negative side effects. It is recommended that anybody in childbearing age should take a prenatal vitamin daily.

In brief: Good idea
If you are planning to conceive, or having unprotected sex, then you may benefit.
The pnvs have extra Folic Acid and other vitamins that help fetal growth before you even discover you are pregnant. Iron can help if prone to anemia, but can be constipating. Choose the formula right for you. I recommend a family planning discussion with your doc to help ensure a safe pregnancy.

In brief: Take em
The pros are that you will have adequate folate (folic acid) intake before you know that you are pregnant.
Only con is relying on vitamins instead of eating a generally healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and veggies.
