When reviewing MRI findings on a radiology report, there can be a lack of clinical correlation with the interpreting radiologist's opinion and a patient's symptoms, since most radiologists do not examine patients. It is best to have your treating doctor personally review the MRI films (not just the report) and recommend what treatments, if any, are needed for your personal condition.

In brief: Disks

If you take 100 people and give each an MRI of the back, over 30% with have an extruded disk, without symptoms.
If you have back pain, and an MRI shows the disk is extruded, and that disk corresponds to a nerve source of your pain, then removing the disk with micro surgical techniques has a very high chance of relieving your pain. Hope this helps.

In brief: No pain, no treatmen

Disc protrusion is very common and if not causing symptoms, no treatment needed.
However, it is highly recommended that you have regular back exercises to maintain its health..
