Can a menstrual period last 2 days only? My periods used to be short but 1.5 to 2 days seems extreme. The flow is regular.

In brief: Yes
For some (lucky) women, the menstrual periods are very short.
Menstrual periods can sometimes change immediately after a pregnancy or during perimenopause (the years right before menopause). If you happen to be on a birth control pill, periods can be very short and very light and even just stop completely after a while.
