In brief: Melanoma

The lighter the skin color the greater the risk.
The greater the amount of sun exposure over time the greater the risk. If several family members have been affected, the greater the risk.

In brief: Common in light skin

On a world wide basis, the most common risk factors are how light a person's skin is and how close they live to the equator. Australia has a high incidence of melanoima since most of the white people are descended from the british.
They have very fair skin and parts of australia have sun exposure like miami or the caribbean - very different from england! very rare in black africans or aborigines.

In brief: Melanoma in dark ski

Melanoma is uncommon in dark skin individuals.
However if they are of mixed race they can be susceptible. We still do not completely understand all the risk factors for melanoma but one thing is for sure, sun exposure in fair skinned people is a major factor.
