In brief: Bbs require patience

Newborns are not aware of sleep or its benefits untill well into their 2nd yr.They glide into sleep like you do when watching a boring movie, if conditions calm & they feel safe.
Move them after they sleep & they are likely to wake screaming. The progressive approach is fine, babe needs light enough to know they're safe, calm babe from distance. Read ferber "solve your childs sleep problem.

In brief: Patience

If your kiddo sleeps in his swing, then let them sleep there.
Once they're good and asleep, move them to their crib. Beware of "systems" and "approaches" to raising kiddos. Books can be helpful but they only provide general advice. You need to get to know your kid and do what they need, not what some book says.
