How long does sclerotherapy or laser therapy effects last following spider vein treatment? When do the spider veins usually return?

In brief: Nothing is permanent

If you don't have untreated underlying vein disease causing the spiders, they should go away for good.
However, your tendency to get spider veins is inherited, so you will always run the risk of developing new spider veins with time (1-10 years). The ones that are treated will go away permanently but nothing can guarantee that you won't get other spider veins in the future. It's in your dna.

In brief: Varies

Spider vein treatment should be thought of in terms of maintenance therapy.
Since spiders are affected by genetics, aging , sun exposure and possibly even trauma. They tend to recur over time after treatment. After treatment(usually 2-3) i tellpatients to return on a yearly basis for touch ups. Also, if you have extensive spiders then i would also get a venous sonogram to evaluate the valves.

In brief: Spider veins

That are treated by sclerotherapy do not return, but you can/will get new ones.
Discoloration or blisters/scars rare. Laser treatment can work well in smallest spider veins, but may cause blisters/scabs and may need more than one treatment. In most patients, all side effects are gone in a few weeks, but in up to 10% there can be hemosiderin staining/hyperpigmentation that persists long-term.
