Virus. Viral conjunctivitis is the other name for pink eye. It generally clears on its own, but often antibiotic drops are prescribed to keep a bacterial infection from setting up in the eye after the virus has irritated it.
Virus. This is caused by a virus. Best treatment is cool compresses, and very good hand washing, especially avoid touching your affected eye and anything else. Be sure other family members don't use the same bath or face towels, as it can spread. Occasionally, it can be part of a bacterial sinus infection. If the mucus is greenish see your doctor.
