Four half lives are required for a drug to not be effective in someone system. For most people, therefore, 16 hours is about the time it would be in your system. Vicodin is broken down to morphine and that is why it shows up positive as an opiate..Most routine tests don't test for vicodin (hydrocodone) per se.
