Sudden sore/swollen throat for 1 day. Have excess saliva. Slight runny nose and chest congestion. Any ideas as what it may be?
Probable. Upper Respiratory infection. For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have Strep Throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider Tylenol or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: Mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. .

Sore throat. One of the symptoms you have (sore throat) is likely pharyngitis. If you were placed on antibiotics it is because the medical provider wanted to cover for streptococcus, a common bacterial cause of pharyngitis. Wil bactrum clear up my sinus/chest congestion plus swollen throat, I was on a steroid and it helped a little but never cleared it up fully?
Hopefully. Taking the full course of antibiotics is very important. It usually takes about 2 days of taking antibiotics before it can reach a therapeutic level and begin to see improvement. Do not miss out on rest and fluids. Try to eat healthy and avoid alcohol and smoking (if you do). If you do not improve, call your doctor for a recheck, possible change of meds, getting x-rays, and maybe more steroids. Read more...
