In brief: Flight symptoms
Your son is likely dehydrated as lengthy flying dries you out.
The nose can also dry out which increases the chance of nosebleeds. Give him plenty of fluids, and get him back on his usual routine and he should be fine.

In brief: Dry Air
The dry air on long flights can lead to dryness in the nose and nose bleeds, as well as, headaches due to dehydration.
Fluids will help. Using a saline nasal spray will help moisurize and heal the nose. In dry climates, i recommend routine use of saline nasal sprays to prevent nose bleeds (particularly in athletes prone to nose bleeds - wrestlers).
