I take humira (adalimumab) for Crohn's disease. I also take melatonin to sleep and read melatonin may affect the humira (adalimumab). Should I be concerned?

Not really. It is good that you are reading the labels/warnings before using medications etc...But fortunately there is not much interaction between melatonin and humira (adalimumab)...
Humira/Melatonin. There are quite a few interactions between the two agents, such as fatigue, nausea/vomiting, depression, headache, blurred vision. Suggest to discuss with your pcp and local GI physician regarding your medications. Suggest to not use them together.

Is there a diet that can eliminate the need for humira/remicade in Crohn's disease patients?

NO. If you have active crohns, liquid or a bland diet may only be slightly helpful. With active crohns resting the bowel or nothing by mouth may be the most helpful plan. Fortunately, there are multiple therapies to help active crohns. Please talk with your GI md or your rheumatologist. Read more...
Nothing proven. There is a lot of press now concerning "anti-inflammatory diets" in treating underlying inflammatory disorders like crohn's. I do have patients who are much improved with eliminating gluten, for example. However, everyone is unique and it is impossible to make a blanket statment about diet and eliminating meds like remicade (infliximab). It is always worth a try if you are motivated to do so. Mayby. There was one japanese study that suggested a plant based diet decreased the relapse rate of crohn's in remission. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/pmc2877178/pdf/wjg-16-2484.pdf unfortunately no pharma money is there to fund a f/u study. - for obvious reasons. If it was me, i'd try the veggie diet for 6 to 12 months. Read more...

I have Crohn's and have been on pentasa, (mesalamine) humira and imuran which severely increase my liver enzymes. Would remicade be less liver toxic then imuran?

Several issues! Humira and Remicade (infliximab) should not be used together. Although they work differently, there net effect is to inhibit tnf-a, a potent mediator of inflammation. Imuran is the most liekly agent to increase lfts, crohn's itself can do this. If you want off the imuran, ciprofloxin and/or metronidazone are options to combine with humira. Do you have arthritis with your crohn's? 30% do. Read more...

I've been having a fever (99.7-100.9) every night for 4 months, I've been on Humira (adalimumab) over a year for Crohn's, in complete remission. Negative to Lupus or RA. The only other symptom I have is night sweats, and fatigue and back pain.

Fevers. this is a BIG concern. Taking Humira (adalimumab) a auto-immune suppressant weakness your immunity. You may be having an infection, and your body can not fight it because your on Humira (adalimumab). I would go to the hospital and get evaluated in the ER now. Read more...
CROHNS ON HUMIRA (adalimumab) That is good news the CROHNS is in remission. I would recommend an exam and retesting of labs. Discuss tapering HUMIRA (adalimumab) , it rarely has been linked to Lymphoma. If SX. Persist CT OF CHEST/ABD/PELVIS IS WARRANTED. . Read more...
