In brief: YES, Promethazine OK

Promethazine is commonly prescibed for children.
Ar his age: usual dose is 12.5-25mg every 8 hours. A suppository may also help. Hope he feels better soon!

In brief: Over 2yo Ok

Though widely prescribed in supository of pill form for years, evidence emerged for young infants & toddlers that this could have an effect on their breathing pattern.
Probably a decade or so ago the fda came out with a warning on use under 2 years of age. It is a proven product & I have no reluctance to prescribe it in older kids.
