In brief: Colon cancers
If you are referring to a colonoscopy, which is a lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, then they might find polyps or colon cancer.
On the other end, there are upper endoscopes (egds) which look at the esophagus and stomach and first part of the small intestine and there could be cancers found there too.

Endoscopy literally means "looking inside". You can find lung cancers sometimes with bronchoscopy, which is another type of endoscopy that looks into the airways. Cystoscopy and ureteroscopy look inside the bladder and up into the ureters and can find cancers there.

In brief: Mucosal
Endoscopy refers to a camera down the upper GI via the mouth; thus mucosal-based cancers (adenocarcinoma and squamous carcinoma) of the esophagus, stomach, and maybe duodenum might be seen.
Because the camera is in the lumen, cancers which are inside the wall (such as gist) and not extending to the inner surface (mucosa) may not be seen.

In brief: Depends
If upper GI -through mouth- then can find and biopsy esophageal, stomach and duodenal and some biliary cancers, depending on technique.
Can also id varices -engorged veins- and evidence of acid damage. Colonoscopy can diagnose colon polyps and cancers as well as hemorrhoids and diverticuli.
