Is it possible or not possible to get iron overload just from eating steak every day? Not eating liver. No iron supplements. No transfusions.
Hereditary. Iron overload or hemochromatosis is usually a hereditary condition. It cannot be caused by eating too much steak unless you have hereditary hemochromatosis. If you are concerned, there is a sensitive and relatively inexpensive screening test for iron overload called the transferrin saturation test. Two positive test results above 60% in men or 50% in women are suggestive of hemochromatosis.
