Why does a new air mattress only cure my dust mite problems for a few days?

In brief: They are everywhere

Dust mites are not just in your mattress.
They are in your clothes, your carpet, your curtains, and all your upholstered furniture. Most allergists are able to help you figure out how to reduce (not eliminate) exposure to dust mites.

Because the infestation still exists - treat the mites and that should help - there are commercially available products to spray and keep mites away - boric acid will help as will a 3% tannic acid solution (basically a strong tea) will also help eradicate the mites.
