My period is usually dark brown and stringy/clumpy. Is this not normal? Why isnt it bright red and more liquidy?

In brief: Progesterone

This could indicate a luteal phase Progesterone deficiency.
I suggest seeing a holistic md and getting serum testing of your hormone levels during days #19-21 of your menstrual cycle to see if you have adequate Progesterone during that time. If you do not, you may benefit from supplemental Progesterone during the second half of your cycle.
