In brief: Yes, quite often

About 4.7 million dog bites occur in the US every year (according to the American Humane Association).
That's about 1.6% of every person in the US, every year! luckily, most are not serious, but 800,000 need medical care, and about 35 people per year die from dog attacks. Almost all fatal dog attacks are male dogs that haven't been neutered, so neuter those dogs, dog owners!

In brief: Yes

Dog bite is a very common complaint in the emergency department.
In addition to treating the wound, the most important issue is for the doctor to determine whether the patient needs rabies preventive treatment. That depends on whether the animal has been properly vaccinated or can be properly quarantined and observed for a period of 10 days after the bite.

It's fairly common.
Dog bites can be very dangerous. Maje sure your tetanus shot is up yo date. If you have any redness around the bite, you may need antibiotics. Make sure the dog is obseved to know if is acting aggressive due to an illness that needs to be quarantined or treated.
