In brief: Depends on age

Varicella (chickenpox) lasts a little longer in adolescents & adults.
In children new crops of blisters called vesicles appear daily for three to five days. Each crop ripens and then crusts over over a period of 3-4 days. So acute illness is present for 6-9 days. Marks from individual lesions can last for years, however, especially if picked at.
