I learned that after wearing invisalign you have to wear retainers forever. Is that true?

In brief: Yes

For any type of orthodontics braces or invisalign.
Our teeth do not want to be naturally straight. If you want to keep them straight you will need to use some form of retainer for as long as you want them to stay straight. Most people get tired of wearing a retainer after 5 years and accept a little "drifting" . But if you want them to be perfectly straight a night time retainers is the best.

In brief: In many cases, yes.

In cases where the original malocclusion was significant, lifetime wear of retainers following invisalign treatment is necessary and prudent in order to preserve the final result.
As teeth have a tendency to shift with age, it is appropriate to use a retainer in most cases. The orthodontist who treated your case is in the best position to advise you as to the type and frequency of retainer wear.

In brief: Absolutely

Protect your investment, wear your retainers.
This is even more important for invisalign treated cases because braces are much better tooth straighteners. The straighter the teeth, the easier it is to retain.

In brief: Absolutely!

Teeth are always moving, whether you have had braces, invisalign, or nothing.
As we age, our lower teeth tend to become crowded, our upper teeth tend to become flared or spaced. Wearing retainers is part of your oral hygiene procedure. Brush, floss, rinse, retain!

In brief: You need to wear

retainers forever whether you had Invisalign or Braces.
Lifetime retention is what we recommend to all our patients if they want to maintain their smile as they continue to grow into adulthood. Teeth unfortunately move throughout your lifetime, and night-time retainer wear will help minimize the movement.

Agreed. And as clear aligners are not as effective as braces, the retention requirement is even more critical.

In brief: True,

After any kind of tooth movement retainers need to be worn to keep teeth in place.
For some people that could be forever.

In brief: True (sort of)

Retainer wear is need for any orthodontic treatment to keep the teeth from regressing back to were they were.
Forever is a bit extreme, but not by much-- at least 10 years if not more is definitely recommended (14 hrs+/day for the first few years).
