Ganglions should only be removed if they are bothersome.
I also remove ganglions for concerned patients who have a history (personal of family) of cancer. Some can be performed under local anesthetic, but i prefer general or regional block for wrist ganglions associated with the joint. As with any operation there are risks involved, but the risk of this procedure is very small.
