In brief: Methylene blue

Methemoglobinemia is a condition where the iron in hemoglobin is converted from normal fe+2 to fe+3 (or methemoglobin).
Methemoglobin doesn't bind oxygen as well as hemoglobin and hypoxia (and the classic blue color) ensues. The cure for methemoglobinemia is methylene blue, which converts the fe+3 back to fe+2. This must be done quickly or the pt can actually die!

Methylene blue is ineffective in patients with G6PD Deficiency...other possible (but infrequently used) treatments for methemoglobinemia include ascorbic acid, hyperbaric oxygen, and exchange transfusion.
