Rest, fluids. Bad colds are common this time of year. Drink plenty of water, flush the nose with saline, and rest. Use a clean humidifier or vaporizer. Stay home to prevent spread to others if you have a fever. Use pain relievers if needed. Cough medicines have not been shown to work well. Honey actually might help coughs. If worsening or difficulty breathing, see your doc.
Bad cold. Drink plenty of fluids; get adequate rest; use tylenol/nsaid for fever or pain; decongestants for nasal/sinus congestion or antihistamine for runny nose. Warm salty liquids like bouillon or chicken soup help sooth the throat & break up phlegm. If symptoms worsen, see your fp for further treatment.
