In brief: Asthma and Allergies

Advair is a combination drug that treats the lungs by relaxing the muscles around the tubes inside the lungs, inhibits allergic responses inside the cells, and reduces the inflammation inside the lungs.
Advair is used to treat asthma and copd. Singulair (montelukast) blocks other types of allergic responses and is used to treat seasonal allergies and asthma.

In brief: Control asthma

Both control the underlying inflammation of asthma decreasing symptoms of coughing, wheezing & difficult breathing.
They decrease the need to use bronchodilators like albuterol & decrease the frequency of exacerbations so you'll need less Prednisone over time. For most folks advair is more effective than singulair (montelukast). They can be used together.
