In brief: Enlarged lymph

Nodes around the neck are very common, especially in children.
Far and away the most common cause of these in the front of the neck is viral upper respiratory infections. Such nodes in the back of the neck can be a bit more concerning, particularly in adults. Other causes: strep throat, infected nodes (lymphadenitis), imflammatory conditions, malignancies (lymphoma and others).
