In brief: No but painful
A gout attack is one of the most severe joint pains that you can experience.
The most common site is the big toe. Other symptoms of gout can be kidney stones (also painful) or chalky deposits in the skin ( painful if large and draining through the skin). Gout can cause joint deformity. The good news is that gout is a very treatable disease with dietary changes and medications. Gout is not fatal.
