In brief: Ingredients
The acellular pertussis vaccines is now recommended to be given at least once to all adults .
There is no recommendation for more than 1 adult booster, but i would not be surprised to see it given for every booster (7-10 yrs) in the future. The other differences are related to the specific type of antigens and quatity in each vaccine.Antigens are the material that triggers your immunity.

In brief: Acellular pertussis.
The difference in the standard td ( tetanus/ diptheria ) had no pertussis vaccine and over recent years - there has been an increase in the adult pertussis ( whooping cough) cases - due to loss of antibodies from childhood.
So now the td shot that everyone gets every 7-10 years has pertusis included - the acellular type just means there is no actual pertusis - just proteins for antibody response.
