In brief: Yes

Simple injuries to the mouth generally heal quite well and rapidly.
Rinse your mouth 3-4 times daily with a solution of 1:1 hydrogen peroxide and water. If the cut is not much improved by 3-4 days or if pain continues to increase, see your doctor.

In brief: Depends

Several factors contribute to whether this will heal without evaluation and suture.
Depth of the laceration is the primary reason for suturing it shut. If more than 6 hours have past, you may not be able to be sutured shut in which case the doctor will specify a wound care regimen. If the split is because of an infection or cancer, it will not heal unless treated accordingly. Location also matters.
