In brief: DTs
Delerium tremens, is severe alcohol withdrawal, and can be deadly so it is treated with strong withdrawal medications in the intensive care units.
The patient has severe confusion, is often very agitated, has shaking, and may have seizures. If a person drinks a lot daily, has done this for years, and then abruptly stops drinking, can go into dts.

In brief: That is one aspect
Actually, only a minority of patients will have full dts but it is important to recognize it early since it has a fatality rate of 5% more.
In addition to the amount of alcohol used, oversll health and nutritional status as well as prior incidence of dts predict its occurrence or recurrence.
