Gonorrhea in women may be very painful (pelvic inflammatory disease can be caused by gonorrhea).
Men usually have urethral (penile) pain but gonorrhea may extend into deeper (and more painful) structures. In both sexes, gonorrhea can cause more remote and painful infections involving the liver and joints among other sites.
