If endocrinologist thinks its reasonable to get surgery, they can refer you to an endocrine or ENT surgeon. The surgeon will evaluate you and also decide if they think surgery is indicated. Choosing surgery is a big choice so getting good opinions is important.

This procedure is done by a surgeon (typically an ENT or general surgeon) but only for certain indications (i.e. Mass in the thyroid, thyroid goiter, etc). If you are mistakenly referring to a thyroid "scan" (ultrasound usually) this can be ordered by any md. See your ENT or pcp if you feel you have thyroid issues.
