In brief: Have it checked out

Perhaps a foot doctor would take an xray and make sure the bone is okay.

In brief: Not if it resolves

It probably is bruised. If it continues i would get an x ray.

In brief: Broken bone

If you are sure you have a broken bone, set up an appointment for a specialist.
You may need casting of surgery depending on severity of fracture. If you're not sure, from your description it sounds like a contusion. If pain and swelling last more than a week, see a specialist for x-rays. Try rest, ice, elevation and antiinflammatory meds otc.
