In brief: HIDA scan is easy

Hida scan is a common test by nuclear medicine.
Hida is injected into blood, then is taken up by your liver & excreted into the bile ducts. If your gallbladder functions (is not sick), it will "light up" when it concentrates the hida material. Giving cck then allows measurement of gallbladder emptying time, patency of the bile ducts, & how effectively the hida material enters your small bowel.

In brief: Extremely common

Hepatic, billiary and splenic scintigraphy have had an important role in radionuclide imaging since the 1960s.
Hida scan or cholescintigraphy is used routinely for the diagnosis of various acute and chronic hepatobilliary diseases, including acute cholecystitis, biliary obstruction, bile leak and acalculous chronic gallbladder disease.

In brief: Yes

Quite common when symptoms of biliary colic are present.
Cholecystitis is not an uncommon problem in our society.HIDA scan shows function of gall bladder and determines if gall bladder is diseased. Gall bladder does not need to have stones or sludge to be diseased. Dyskinesia of gall bladder occurs in anatomically normal gb that functions abnormally
