In brief: Not likely

Trisomy 8 is a common chromosomal abnormality in mds patients and is likely an acquired event.
This is different from trisomy 8 (warkany) syndrome which is an inherited disorder.

In brief: Not passed on

If your mom functioned well enough to thrive for many years & have kids, the defect in chm 8 represents a feature caused the cancer process.
Tumor cells are by definition different & many have abnormalities in chromasomes. Most of your mom's tissues have normal genes. There are rare family clusters that are predisposed to cancer. A genetic counselor can assemble information on your family's risk.

In brief: Probably not

Even though a history of mds in first degree relatives may slightly increased the overall risk to develop mds, the risk is still minimal and these diseases are usually not hereditary.
