Yes. The chlamydia germ that usually infects the genitals can also infect the throat, if a person manages to transfer the germs from somebody else's genitals (or throat). The germ is bigger than a virus and smaller than a bacteria, and it needs antibiotics for treatment. So, a person with a sore throat and a negative strep throat test should be sure to tell his doctor about any oral-genital habits.
Chlamydia sorethroat. Chlamydia doesn't often cause a sore throat but it certainly can. It is usually transmitted by oral sex. If you have a sore throat lasting more than a week you should see your doctor. Treatment will be by antibiotics. Many chlamydia infections have no symptoms.
Positive Strep Test. Strep throat usually occurs rapidly with severe achiness, swollen tonsils, puss on the tonsils, swollen lymph nodes in the neck and fevers < 101. There is usually no runny nose, congestion, cough, nausea or vomiting. Sometimes the patient's throat is so sore they can almost not swallow. A regular sore throat is milder with runny nose, cough, lower fever and less achiness. A strep test/culture is +.
Throat culture strep. Strep throat is characterized by intensely sore multiple circular or ovoid ulcerations of the lining of the throat and/or tonsils that may or may not coalesce into larger erosive ulcerations. Swallowing food, liquids and even saliva is excruciatingly painful. Because it is a bacterial infection is is almost always accompanied by a fever greater than 101 degrees, malaise and loss of appetite.
Very unlikely. That they are related. You could of course have a second problem with infection.
Tested positive with strep throat for 3 time in last two months. I have sore throat symptoms but nothing else. Am I a carrier? Am I contagious everyday?
Treatment. You should be treated with antibiotic for 10 -14 days and after treatment have culture from throat to be sure is negative but if positive it is resistant to antibiotic that you use so antibiotic should be Chang and to be treated and have culture after treatment again.
Hard to say. We generally reserve the "chronic carrier" label for those who do not get sick with it, although anyone sick with it carries it for a while. You need to investigate whether you are being reinfected by a third party, your old tooth brush, your dog, etc. Some have resistant strep and need 2 stage therapy. Work the specifics out with your doc.
This could be a. Viral infection, strep throat, yeast etc. Med eval would help to differentiate. For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm >.
Help me understand pls; why commonly do I suffer from coughing, mucus and blocked nose AFTER having a day or two of sore throat symptoms, not during?
Spread of infection. What you described suggests viral infection and virus may affect different tissues at different times in the course of an infection. For example measles causes sore throat before there is skin rash. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex.
Will strep test show positive at first sign of sore throat? Symptoms started less than 24 hrs ago, got tested, nurse said test negative. I often get strep.
The rapid strep test. Can be falsely negative 30% of the time, meaning you have the disease but the rapid test failed to pick it up. That is why many docs will send a culture. But even so, if you know you were exposed to another person who tested positive for strep pharyngitis, the guidelines say to treat regardless of what the rapid test shows. In that case many elect not to send a culture because it doesn't affect Tx.
Can performing oral sex on a guy that is infected with chlamydia cause sore throat and blisters inside throat?
Yes. You likely have an oral infection with the same organism. Please go get treated by your doctor. You also could have a more serious infection with herpes.
Unlikely. The symptoms you described fit more to herpes infection rather than chlamydia. Checking with your primary care doctor will be appropriate.
Treated 4 oral chlamydia/gonorrhea. Took azithromycin for 6 days. Other symptoms have gone away except for a persistent mild to moderate sore throat.
STD. I would err on the side of caution and treat with a further course of doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 10 days. The chlamydia may not be gone.
