In acute pancreatitis the basic treatment is resting the pancreas, by limiting intake of food.
Also you are given IV fluids and pain medication. If the pancreatitis becomes very severe you may need antibiotics and in rare circumstances surgery. The other thing that is done is investigating the cause in order to prevent future attacks.

Pancreatitis comes in two basic forms--mild and severe.
Even mild pancreatitis is accompanied by severe pain. The basic treatment is bowel rest and IV fluids and medication as needed for pain. Severe pancreatitis can be associated with multiple complications and is usually treated in an icu. Each complication (infection, shock, respiratory impairment, bleeding, etc.) is treated as they arise.
