How come doctors recommend people over forty-five years old to drink milk?

In brief: Calcium and Protein

Many american's have relatively low, if not deficient, calcium levels.
This leads to slow leeching of calcium from our bones, making them more brittle in old age. I suspect any doctor's you've spoken with recommend milk for this reason. Milk is also a good source of protein. Remember the fat though, i always recommend skim milk, and at most 2%, for adults.
