Is it true that when a stomach virus hits, I will vomit and not have diharrea until the virus has moved lower?

Not necessarily. Some types of viruses cause nausea and vomiting only, some cause diarrhea too. Sometimes the symptoms come all at once, sometimes they are delayed. It's really impossible to predict. Remember, strict hand washing or sanitization and good food safety practices can prevent many intestinal illnesses. Thanks for trusting HealthTap! Read more...

What could be the cause of diarreah and loss of apetite? I thought a stomach virus but this has gone on for a few days now. It also began w/ vomiting.

Probably virus. Some viral infections last 24 hours, others 1 week. Sometimes the virus is cleared, but symptoms linger at a lower intensity and frequency for weeks to months. Symptoms lasting longer than 2 to 4 weeks should be evaluated by a health care provider. Read more...
