In brief: Chronic Lung Disease

COPD is a disease of inflammation and/or destruction of the lung.
Most often, it is from smoking cigarettes, but not always. There are two main components: chronic bronchitis, which is coughing up mucus every day; and emphysema, which is destruction of the lung tissue. Both conditions block air from completely exiting the lung causing symptoms. That said, it can be treated effectively.

In brief: C.O.P.D.

It is a disease of the lungs that causes shortness of breath with wheezing and ronchi as a result of destruction of the airway ( intralveolar septums) capacity to open and mostly caused by smoking or other airborn insults.
It is progressive. Has no cure. May accompany other disorders caused by smoking like lung cancer, coronary disease, peripheral vascular disease. It is an irreversible asthma.
