When breastfeeding, sometimes the thick secretions can obstruct a milk duct.
If this persists it can lead to a mastitis. Gentle massage with warm compresses will usually allow the blockage to release.

Fevers, redness and pain around breast during breast feeding are signs of mastitis. If you get any of these signs but you are not breastfeeding you need to see a doctor.
