In brief: Potentially big

Shoulder dystocia occurs when the baby's shoulders are stuck behind the pubic bone.
Some babies end up with permanent neurologic injuries from this problem, although most have only transient effects from the maneuvers required to complete the delivery.

In brief: Shoulder dystocia

It is called shoulder dystocia.
Almost impossible to predict and seen in higher percentage in obese or diabetic mothers. There are some maneuvers to deliver the baby, some involve intentionally hurting the baby (collar bone fracture and humeral bone fracture) so you can get the baby out asap. Sometimes this does not work. It is the worse OB complication.
