Hepatitis. Inflammation of the liver is called hepatitis and there are many causes: alcohol, drugs / medications, viral infections (hepatitis a, b, c), autoimmune disorders (autoimmune hepatitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, primary biliary cirrhosis), and metabolic disorders (non-alcoholic fatty liver dz, wilson dz, hemochromatosis, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Important to see a hepatologist.
Hepatitis. Inflammation of the liver is referred to as hepatitis. Most commonly it is due to viral infections, e.g., hep a, hep b, hep c, epstein barr virus, cytomegalo virus. Bacteria and parasites can also cause hepatitis. Alcoholic injury can induce hepatitis as well. Hepatic inflammation may result from chemical injury as well, e.g., carbon tetrachloride, mushrooms etc.
