In brief: Tingling
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a pinched nerve at the wrist which causes symptoms of numbness and tingling most commonly in the thumb index middle and ring fingers.
It can be treated with splinting, injections of cortisone and that when it's very severe or does not respond to nonsurgical treatment one can consider a surgery called a carpal tunnel release.

In brief: Hand tingling
All three answers so far have mentioned symptoms n the thumb, index, middle, ring fingers but about 33% of CTS patients present with tingling that they feel affects all 5 digits - even though this does not make anatomical sense, so extension of the symptoms outside the 'median' area does not exclude CTS

In brief: Hand numbness
Classic features of carpal tunnel syndrome include hand numbness and tingling over the palmar thumb, index, middle, and half the ring finger and loss of dexterity ("dropping objects").
Often these symptoms are worse at night time or with certain wrist positions or activities. When severe or long standing, pain and weakness and thenar atrophy can present.
